“It’s in my genes – my father had it, my grandfather had it – so I’ll have it.” These are the words of many who face diabetes or Huntington’s disease, and more commonly heart disease. But brand new breakthroughs have been made in gene therapy and hopefully in the not-to-far future we will have reliable preventative cures.

I’m walking down a dimly lit alley, it’s narrow and there’s a long way to go. It’s all there in front of me and I can see the way, but huge boulders and pitfalls litter the alley. It looks treacherous. Progress will be hard and painful but I decide to give it a shot. Over each boulder and pitfall is scrolled a different word; money – sponsorship – equipment – innovation – dedication. If I can get over those then it’s free sailing.
