    KATHY HOFMEYR

    Mixing Your Drinks
There is a distinct difference between meeting for drinks and meeting for cocktails. Meeting for cocktails is “refined”. It somehow implies a sophistication above and beyond that attainable by the average human being. Meeting for cocktails frequently requires appropriate attire, the right setting, sparkling conversation, specific etiquette and very tiny food.

    JOHAN LIEBENBERG
    Oxtail for the winter chill
The other morning early, driving into town over De Waal Drive, I was greeted by a gratifying sight: down below the harbour an early morning mist lay. The mist had settled during the night and now lingered even though the sun was already up.

    BRYONY MCCORMICK
    Biography
Bryony (pronounced: Braai-Knee), hails from a rustic surfing village nestled on the Kwa Zulu Natal Coast, Westbrook. She grew up without robots, stop streets, crime or electric gates. JAMES FRANCIS
    Biography
A writer for NAG and SA Computer Magazine, James Francis has done quite well with no formal training in journalism. While stories about technology and games pay the rent, his real passion lies in new grounds: the bleeding edge of Internet culture, the finge, the taboo and anything that seems worth telling people about.

Touring Mosambique and explaining to readers just how you remove a land mine sounds like a good story. As technology explodes, it affects our cultures drastically. James likes sitting on the cusp of the chaos and staring into the abyss.

    ALEKS KEMPISTY
    Biography
So what can one say about Aleks Kempisty. A few words spring to mind: explosive, opinionated, aggressive, occasionally rude but always brutally honest. You have to remember that this is someone who lists ‘taking the mickey’ as a favourite past time.

    MIMI TSIANE

    RUTH BRADBURY-HORTON
    Biography
Ruth has been called Nosey, but prefers the more PC equivalent of Information Gatherer. TRIXY HONORE
    Biography
Trixy Honore is a devotee of star gossip and Elvis Presley, counting among her enemies the modern colonial mindset and experimental jazz. She's of the firm belief that the lack of radio airtime nowadays given to such luminaries as The Beatles or The Spicegirls is the root of society's current malaise. Asked to pick her style icons, she would opt for Tretchikoff, Gwyneth Paltrow and Dorothy Parker. Trixy lives with a menagerie of acrylic, plastic, piscean and human characters in Cape Town.

    ALEX PAPADOPULOS
    Biography
Alex Papadopulos is your typical 26-year-old male, trying to make a living out of the ever popular IT industry. While he is not at work, which is not all that often, he juggles his time between writing columns, trying to get a game of basketball in once every three months, and driving his friends mad with his crazy, and generally, illogical ideas about life. Alex sits on the fence between hetero- and metrosexual, and is very undecided between the new millenium man who keeps his finger nails clean and the man who is just as meticulous about his car.
