ZEST
The Kloof and Hillcrest areas have burgeoned over the last few years to house some really great restaurants. At the forefront of this revolution has been the Black family who can confess to owning some of the best. Zest is the newest filly in the stable.

CAFÉ 1999
There is just something about a full restaurant that gives you a wonderful sense of security – if all these people are here then surely there has to be something good about this place, right? Well when it comes to a stalwart such as Café 1999 you just can’t go wrong.

Ciao Itallia - better than Mamma could ever make!
When I think of Italian cooking I think of warmth; I think of red-checked table-cloths; I think of people laughing. But more than anything else, I think of comforting food that only Mamma could make. Ciao Itallia doesn't disappoint on any fronts except that the checked table-cloths are replaced by pristine white ones. There are even two locations to choose from (Westville or Durban North) both using the same menu of Italian classics and a specials menu which varies daily and from branch to branch.

AQUA - Here fishy, fishy, fishy
I don't claim to be a renowned gastronome nor a Michelin star chef, what I am, though, is someone who revels in the glory of first-class food. Whether it's prepared by a top chef who has been classically trained in the finest restaurants in the world or a novice who is just mucking about is irrelevant. What matters is the use of good quality, seasonal products, presentation and most importantly taste. So with these simple rules in mind I enlisted the help of Mumsy-dearest and off we went to sample the wares at Aqua in the Sibaya Casino complex just outside Durban.
