F1 COLUMN
Live from London
Pit straight A, seat A 373 — that is the very seat that housed me as I took in the action that was to unfold at the British Grand Prix. I got hot, I got sweaty, I got sunburnt but every deafening nanosecond was completely worth it.

Monaco Mayhem
With all the overindulgence on ample display at Monaco perhaps Michael Schumacher felt that he should join in the revelry, losing his concentration for a split moment and parking the car during qualifying?

Fantastico Fernando, Fantastico!
How does it feel to inspire an entire country — to introduce an almost untouchable sport to the frenzied masses? Fernando Alonso certainly knows how that feels and this weekend he no doubt moved a whole new generation of F1 fans.

Bruce bounces back
Out of 5

Bruce Willis has been typecast as an atypical action hero but, thankfully, it’s a part he’s proved to be completely fabulous at. 'Hostage' is no exception.

Eyecandy and chuckles
Out of 5

If you're looking for an intellectual and witty comedy then 'Guess Who' is going to leave you disappointed. In fact you may even contemplate its very merits of being called a comedy — the storyline is hardly novel and borders on the mundane, leaving the overall package is a bit dull.

ALEKS KEMPISTY
Biography

So what can one say about Aleks Kempisty. A few words spring to mind: explosive, opinionated, aggressive, occasionally rude but always brutally honest. You have to remember that this is someone who lists ‘taking the mickey’ as a favourite past time.

This is someone who can be scathing one minute and very complimentary the next – perhaps it’s a sign of more than one personality fighting to get out. Whatever your opinion of the person – it would probably be better to let the writing just speak for itself. Oh, and Aleks adores a good argument so feel free to start one – it would be interesting to note who won!

CAFÉ 1999
There is just something about a full restaurant that gives you a wonderful sense of security – if all these people are here then surely there has to be something good about this place, right? Well when it comes to a stalwart such as Café 1999 you just can’t go wrong.

Ciao Itallia - better than Mamma could ever make!
When I think of Italian cooking I think of warmth; I think of red-checked table-cloths; I think of people laughing. But more than anything else, I think of comforting food that only Mamma could make. Ciao Itallia doesn't disappoint on any fronts except that the checked table-cloths are replaced by pristine white ones. There are even two locations to choose from (Westville or Durban North) both using the same menu of Italian classics and a specials menu which varies daily and from branch to branch.

AQUA - Here fishy, fishy, fishy
I don't claim to be a renowned gastronome nor a Michelin star chef, what I am, though, is someone who revels in the glory of first-class food. Whether it's prepared by a top chef who has been classically trained in the finest restaurants in the world or a novice who is just mucking about is irrelevant. What matters is the use of good quality, seasonal products, presentation and most importantly taste. So with these simple rules in mind I enlisted the help of Mumsy-dearest and off we went to sample the wares at Aqua in the Sibaya Casino complex just outside Durban.
